Description
The stage starts in the wine village of Stratzing on a high plateau between the Danube, Krems River and Kamp. The Stratzing wine cellar lane and the local Ice Age Trail invite you to take your first worthwhile detour. The route then leads through extensive vineyards and a shady section of forest along the Stratzingbach stream. The route first leads to Priel, then on to the destination of Droß. After the fantastic scenery along the way, the Fatima pilgrimage church and the Renaissance Droß castle are also real eye-catchers. In the castle chapel of St. Georg, you can also marvel at some of the oldest frescoes in Austria. With these incredible impressions, the hike, which is well worth seeing, finally comes to an end.

Route description Long-distance path Kremstal-Donau 11: Stratzing - Droß
From the Stratzing municipal office, we walk a short distance down the Lower Main Street where we then turn right into Hollerzeile. Passing the parish church of St. Nicholas, we come to the cemetery, stop and turn left, and after about 200 m reach the playground. We continue straight ahead, past the vineyards Sunogeln and Hochsatzen, hike through a shady forest section along the Stratzing stream and then reach the village of Priel. At the state road, we turn right, then cross it heading north until we reach the horse paddock. Upon arrival there, we go right and immediately left again. Arriving at the main street of Droß, we reach the Schlossstraße going northwest and subsequently the municipal office as our destination.

The Pilgrimage Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Droß commemorates the Marian apparition in Fatima in 1917.
The St. George’s Castle Chapel is a small Romanesque building from the mid-12th century with some of the oldest frescoes in Austria. The key for it can be picked up during opening hours at the municipal office of Droß.
