Hard in the west
In the two geological landmarks of the Krems Valley, bedrock can mainly be found in the west of the region, which is still on the edge of the Bohemian mass. Primitive rock soils (more precisely primitive rock weathering soils) are found in the locations on the border to the Wachau that extend up the actual Kremstal to Senftenberg. Typical of these soils are the steep terraces, which are bordered with stone walls, in which steel, fine-spiced, mineral white wines - especially Rieslings - grow with an elegant depth and a firm structure.
